A building permit for construction of any structure in excess of 200 square feet is required before construction begins within Montgomery County's jurisdiction, located outside the police jurisdictions of the City of Montgomery and the Town of Pike Road.

The City of Montgomery's police jurisdiction extends 3 miles out from the city limit line. The Town of Pike Road's police jurisdiction extends 3 miles outside the town limit line.

Non-flood prone permits cost $100.00 per structure if construction is begun within six months of issuance. Permits for construction of structures within flood prone areas must be built in accordance to The Montgomery County Floodplain Prevention Ordinance effective 12/16/2025. The cost for flood-prone building permits is based on a sliding scale according to the cost of the structure.
