What are Community Corrections Programs?
Community Corrections Programs are community-based programs for non-violent offenders which oversee offenders outside of prison. The Montgomery County Community Punishment and Corrections Authority (MCCPCA) was established by local Circuit and District Judges, other County Officials and community stakeholders to help address and mitigate the issues associated with overcrowding in the county jail as well as the expanding state’s prison population. The Montgomery County Community Corrections Department is governed by the MCCPCA with the fiscal and administrative support of the Montgomery County Commission.
To meet the needs of the offender population and to advance public safety, the focus on offender supervision and services for the Montgomery County Community Corrections Department is the continued and focused adoption of evidence-based practices in all aspects of Community Supervision. A significant focus of the Community Corrections Department is the advancement of individual staff competencies to effectively work with this challenging offender population and to achieve positive changes in offender behavior.
Oversight is provided by local officials, who consider local criminal justice system needs while expanding the options available for sentencing criminal defendants. The Department of Corrections, local county governments, offender fees and other sources fund these programs.
Program Goals:
- To promote accountability of offenders to their local community by requiring direct financial restitution to the victim(s) of the crime and along with community service which is made to local governments and community agencies representing the community;
