The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is warning residents about an ongoing phone scam where scammers impersonate law enforcement and falsely claim that the person has an arrest warrant, missed jury duty, or owes a fine. These scams often originate in foreign countries but with current technology, they can spoof official law enforcement phone numbers and use real names of deputies and officials.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will never request payment over the phone to avoid arrest, cancel a warrant, or make any threats. If you receive a call making such requests, simply hang up. If you have fallen victim and have sent money to one of these scammers, please contact your local law enforcement agency to file a report.
