- Pursuant to Alabama law, a registered voter is eligible to vote by absentee ballot if he or she:
o Will be out of the county or state on Election Day.
o Is physically incapacitated and will not be able to vote in person on Election Day.
o Works a required workplace shift which has at least ten (10) hours that coincide with the polling hours at the voter’s regular polling place.
o Is a student at an educational institution based outside the county of the voter’s permanent residence, and therefore unable to vote at his or her usual polling place on Election Day.
o Is a member of, or a spouse of, the armed forces of the United States or is otherwise entitled to vote by absentee pursuant to the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, 42 U.S.C. 1973ff.
o Has been appointed as an election officer at a polling place which is not the voter’s regular polling place.
· In order to vote absentee, a voter must apply for an absentee ballot. A voter may apply for an absentee ballot in one of the following ways:
o Visiting the Montgomery Election Center at 125 Washington Avenue.
o Downloading an Absentee Ballot Application from our website and returning the application to:

o Requesting an Absentee Ballot Application through mail by calling the Montgomery Election Center at 832-1281.
· Absentee Ballot Applications and voted absentee ballots will be accepted by hand delivery only from the voter whose name appears on such materials. When hand delivering an Absentee Ballot Application or voted absentee ballot, the Absentee Election Manager will require the voter to present an acceptable form of identification.

*Absentee Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by this date, and received by the Absentee Election Manager by noon on the following day.
** Absentee Ballots returned by hand delivery must be received by 5:00 p.m. on this date.
