Participating in the Process
City, County, and State employees may participate in political activities and contribute to campaings.
City and County emplyees must take an unpaid leave of absence, use accrued overtime, or accrued vacation time to run for office with the entity which he/she is employed.
Use of leave, overtime, or vacation time runs from date of qualification until date when no longer seeking office.
Members of a candidate's immediate family (to 2nd degree of kinship by blood or marriage) cannot serve as a polling official in any election which the relative-candidate is participating.
If reasonable notice is given to an employer, then an employee is entitled to a maximum of one hour absence (determined by employer) from work to vote on Election Day.
Exception: work shift starts at 9:00 a.m. or later or ends at 6:00 p.m. or earlier.
